So the Priest has finally arrived to lead the the Irish Guards, he is a Bluemoon figure from Nuns and Priests pack from their horror range, bit of an expense buying a full pack for 1 figure but he is a must have. So now can I claim +2 for holy protection and throw the pretender from the throne ??
I have tried a new basing style for the Priest, after input from Ray (don't throw a one) and have tried to match the Guards with it , in an okish fashion, all comments welcome.

Here we have the finished (minus 1 flag) Bluemoon Bavarian Costa Cuirassier Regt, I wasn't very happy with these, as the standard of the figure combined with the high price makes them a poor buy, however I am currently painting painting some tricorned cavalry figures and they seem much better, I will post pics when finished with some Dixons and Essex and let you decide.

Latest regt to join the Catholic cause, I really enjoyed painting these after stuggling with the Bluemoon cavalry, may have to eat my words though, currently painting some of their figures up as Hanoverian horse, and the early signs are quite promising. The flags here are from the excellent Maverick Models range and the figures are Dixons,the yellow coatedgent on the back row represents a NCO who wore reversed colours, hope you like them

Well here we are Bluemoon v Essex v Dixon, we have 2 regiments here, Arco, blue facings and Costa with the red facings, Arco are Dixon troopers and Essex command figures while Costa are all Bluemoon, I think once the current Bluemoon figures are painted I won't be buying any more, they arn't bad figures but certainly not an improvement on figures that were designed 10+ years ago, and as a new company they should be pushing to make improvements or expand on what is already available, but they haven't.

Well unpainted dragoons anyway ! ! Here we have L to R Dixon, Bluemoon and Essex, I have a beef with all of them, even though they are my choosen figures, as they are all compatable, if not in the same unit certainly within the same army. Dixons, good figures, but they do lack variety and movement, and choice of horses, Essex, again a lack of movement in the figures however they do have a variation in horse poses, but some of these are dire, Bluemoon, infantry about 2mm bigger than Dixon/Essex so these must look small next to their infantry, not completed painting any yet, but they do lack raised detail and 1 of poses of the horses, is absolutly awful, after all that moaning, I am happy overall with all of them, but please can I have the Dixons in the poses of Bluemoon with Essex horses in decent action poses.

Just a few pics of my latest figures, finished a Hanoverian infantry brigade, the last 2 infantry regiments are on here, De Luc, white coats and green facings, De Charles, red facings, green facings.
The cavalry are French, Royal Allmand, La Reine and Commissaire General. All the figures are Dixons, French flags are from Maverick Models and the Hanoverians from AJ Dumelow.
I've ordered some Bluemoon cavalry figures to complete the Hanoverians, having visited the Old Glory stand at Derby and compared figure sizes for match. The cavalry are a good match whilst the Bluemoon foot figures are a couple of mil bigger than Dixon and Essex figures

Oh and the Cuirrasier unit is the Bavarian Arco Regt

Finally done it, the Irish Jacobites are completed, 10 battalions of foot, 6 squadrons each of horse & dragoons and 4 light guns, may add some highlanders in the future for some what if scenarios, but on with the French and English for now, hope you like the pics, as always coments welcome, good or bad TTFN

These are the last "proper" units of the Irish Jacobite army, just some mounted officers and some figures to represent dismounted dragoons, these units are Gordon O'Neills Foote Regiment, and a combined grenadiers unit, these make the total size of the army 3 horse, 3 dragoons, 10 foot and 4 guns , was wondering about doing a small British force of 8 units, 2 horse, 4 Highlanders and 2 loyal regts of foot for "what if" scenarios, I would welcome your thoughts.

First Army Finished (at last)

Hi guys I'm pleased to announce that I've finally finished the first army, it is the Saxon-Polish army for the Great Northern War.I'd like to start by thanking Dan Schorr for all the Saxon Army details including flags. I'm really glad I started with this army though they may well find themselves fighting Irish and French armies and not the Swedes, most of the Saxons are Dixon models with the odd Essex and Hallmark figure thrown in, while the Poles are all Essex except for the commander and his standard bearer, the're legio models. Only 2 more infantry units, a regiment of dragoons and some officers to paint and the Irish Jacobites will be finished. the case for the figures from the really useful box company, available from hobbycraft and Rymans, the self-adhesive magnetic sheets are from Principals of war and finally the steel bases I use are from Precision Wargames Supplies Ltd, expensive but I feel worth it for the thin profile, once again thanx for looking and remember all comments good or bad are always welcome.

Hi,

Sorry for the lack of updates, lost my enthusiasm for painting, have got some done recently though, Life Guards complete as well as 2 infantry regiments, Lord Bellews and the Lord Grand Priors, only 2 units of dragoons and 3 regiments of foot and my Jacobite army will be finished, as a rule of thumb, my Jacobites & Saxons will each be 10ish regiments of foot and 6 regiments of horse. The Anglo-Dutch and the French will each be about 16 of foot and 10 of horse if all goes well. Also I attended Partizan mainly to see the Aughrim game and take some photies of the figures, I know some of you have been asking to see a few pics, and the organisers havn't been forth coming so there are a few here, sorry about the quality they were done with my phone.

The Big Freeze

Well ! What's that got to do with wargaming ? I hear you say, well my painting is all done in my garage, an English mans home maybe his castle, but his garage is his sanctuary, and it's just too bloody cold to sit in there and paint, so everything has ground to a halt, so unfortunatly no more picks till it warms up a little. Meanwhile I would just like to point out that unless anyone can defend them I truly believe that the staff at DHL Ashton, are a bunch of lazy,whinging, bellyaching, tossers, my new mobile is now 7 days overdue, everyone else can deliver to Buxton, but DHL Ashton say the roads are too dagerous, even other DHL depots are delivering here !!!!!!

These are the latest completed figures, they are all Dixon Figures, I can't recommend them highly enough, lots of detail but very easy to paint, the English regt represents the Queen Dowagers, whilst the Dutch are the Slangenberg Regt, currently waiting for a delivery of Essex figures, which hopefully will give me enough figures to allow me to finish the Irish Jacobite army, may I take this oppotunity to wish you all a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Well infantry and cavalry anyway, but they are English, French, Dutch and Irish, the Irish are O'Neills Dragoons, hence the red hand flag, the English are Churchills Regt, aka "The Buffs", the French are Piedmont Regt and finally the Dutch are Van Beyheym Regt. Hi guys, done quite a bit of painting recently, will hopefully soon have enough for a small battle, the French Guard is finished, two battalions each of French and Swiss, French regiment Aquitaine also done and one regiment of Jacobite foot and one of horse, all the figures are by Essex accept for Aquitaine, which are Dixons, I'd forgot how easy the Dixons are to paint with lots of raised detail, will hopefully be able to bang out some more French quite quickly.

Ok, some proper photos, these arn't very good quality, they've been taken on my now cat proof painting table, it broke my heart having to clean it up, but they're worth it, they give me an excuse to sit in the garage and paint, the wagons are Hallmark models now available from Magister Militum, the cavalry are once again from Essex Miniatures Ltd. wonder if they'll do me a discount for this free advertising ? As uniform and flag detail for this army is virtualy non existant, the cavalry is pure guess work, but is going to represent the Duke of Tyrconnells Regt, the flags were from AJ Dumelow,not sure where they would be available from now, and were the only cavalry flags I could get my grubby mits on that had JR on them, even Bill couldn't help much, but he did help with the Dragoon flags that will come later, TTFN

Hi, Latest Jacobite unit to be finished, Irish recruits, once again all the figures are Essex, I wasn't too sure about these figures when I started this period, however they have grown on me, just a shame about their exorbitantly high p&p charges, £9 for a 900g packet !!! the flag is from the Catalan wargamers group, it is a Catalan militia flag, but as it's in latin I thought what the hell, I'll use it,rough translation, "We shall live free or we shall die" the remainder of the winged hussars are nearly finished, so hopefully I'll put some photos up of the whole of the Saxon/Polish army. Irish Guards

This is the first unit of the Irish Jacobite army I've painted, I know in an ideal world you should leave the guards till last in case your painting improves, however their flag was on top and my painting is only likely to get worse as my eyesight deteriorates with old age, the grenadiers are put to one side to be part of a composite grenadier battalion, will be concentrating on this army as soon as I've finished the rest of the winged hussars, then I'll be fleshing out the English and Dutch I've already painted. The Irish units will be based with pikemen, this is to represent their poor weaponry but high fighting ability in hand to hand.

Sorry there's been no updates for a while, but life sometimes gets in the way, ran off to Cornwall with my gorgeous girlfriend to get married, and have done alot of partying with family and friends since, anyway, have still managed to get another unit of Poles finished, so only got 2 units of winged hussars to do and the Saxon/Polish army is finished, also started on the Irish Jacobite army with the Guards nearly finished, Arrans horse next with some militia.

Saxon Artillery

Just finished off the Saxon artillery, the crews are based and the guns are loose, I've based the crews to designate the size of gun, 4 figures for a positional gun, 3 figures for a light gun, the figures are a mix of Essex and Dixon an odd Halmark one may have slipped in as well, now just some bloody Poles to paint and this army is finished.

Went to Partizan yesterday, another excellent show by the Newark lads, big queue to get in but it moved quite quickly, spent my time in the queue speaking to a rather nice gentleman from Cambridge, lots of nice games on show, shame that I didn't see anything from this era, but some of them truly took my breath away, anyone who hasn't been to Partizan is really missing a treat. Finally talked myself into joining the Pike and Shot Society and bought some ECW cavalry from Peter Pig, these will be making an appearance as Irish Jacobite cavalry. Next up on the site the first of my Polish infantry just got to finish basing them.

Sorry chaps, Steve pointed out that I forgot to name the units, the infantry are Terico Amarillos or "Old Yellows" and the Dragoons are Regiment Campredon. They will be joining the Catholic League forces, France, Savoy, Jacobite Ireland and Bavaria against the Protestant Powers of Great Britain, Holland, Saxony/Poland and Sweden.

Firstly I would like to say thanx for the kind comments on my painting.

These are two Saxon Dragoon Regts that I've done, the top ones, Blue Standard, white facings is the Leib Dragoon Regt, and the bottom pictures yellow standard and facings, represent the Von Brause Regt, once again the figures are Dixons, I've heard a rumour that these figures were designed by Tony Barton, in his Battle Honour days, if this rumour is true, Tony please expand this range.
